Voice and Author Theory: Wes Anderson
Wes Anderson's
movie are so unique in style that usually a single shot from his films is all
it takes to recognize the director. As an indie filmmaker, he has
developed a distinct aesthetic style that is easily recognizable through his
use of striking color palettes, symmetrical compositions and simple cuts.
Anderson’s movies are quirky but with a sensible content. The stories are
usually around family’s, friends’ or lovers’ bound. Unlike many other
filmmakers, Anderson doesn’t aim for highly believable act and advanced
technology to use for outstanding visual effects. On the contrary, he
intentionally makes his movies with old methods of visual effects and
exaggerates them even further. He often casts outstanding actors and actresses
but directs them to have rather theatrical performance. Anderson also uses
stop-motion technics instead of computer-generated effects to make them more
sentimental.
